PRE ORDER ships May 15. For those who want to mark the 250th anniversary of our American democracy with respect, we offer a hand-illustrated tea towel called Independence Bouquet. To create this bouquet, I selected the flowers to represent our red-white-and-blue flag:
red garden-spray roses
blue privet berries
white cornflowers
Then I spotted the Allium which looks just like fireworks! Perfection!
I'm keenly aware of the tensions in our country around so many important issues and I don't have easy answers. But I do know we can honor our ancestors and the framers of the Constitution by remembering what we can be grateful for, especially at this anniversary of our founding. For me, that includes the natural beauty of our land and the independent spirit of our people.
I feel reverence for the great American endeavor, to create a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. We are called upon as citizens to help make this ideal a working reality, and it has always been complicated. I felt that as I drew the thorny stems of the roses, captured the various interwoven leaves, and showed the flowers straining in all different directions.
But I argue that the whole of the bouquet is stronger, more vital, and bold because it brings these elements together.
I hope you take some time this year to read a bit of history, listen to some interviews, maybe watch Ken Burns' documentary, to deepen your appreciation of our remarkable experiment in self-governance.
Most importantly, I hope we each reach out to family and friends that may not share our political leanings but can still share the simple joys of what we have in common.
May we all have a meaningful celebration of our 250th anniversary this year!

We bring sunshine to your kitchen with our soft and absorbent 100% cotton flour sack towels woven in India and printed in California.
The towel is a classic 28-inch square featuring the illustration in the lower half on each side of the towel. When folded, the display areaon each side is 14” x 9”.
The tea towel is machine-washable, but avoid using any bleach. Over time, since it is cotton and not polyester, the colors may fade, but it will still be beautiful.
